Messages & Inbox
Use Messages (chat channels and direct messages) or the legacy Inbox, depending on what's enabled for your workspace.
Messages & Inbox
How you communicate inside CloseIntel depends on whether chat is enabled for your workspace. There are two possible surfaces:
- Messages — a real-time chat experience with channels and direct messages. When chat is enabled for your workspace, the sidebar item under Training & Development reads Messages and opens
/dashboard/messages. - Inbox — the original message center that collects coaching feedback, direct messages, and notifications in one list. When chat is not enabled, the sidebar item reads Inbox and opens
/dashboard/inbox.
If chat is enabled for your workspace, the old /dashboard/inbox link automatically takes you to Messages. Either label points to the right place — your workspace only shows one of them.
Messages (chat)
When chat is enabled, Messages is a real-time workspace conversation tool. The left sidebar groups your conversations into sections.
Channels
Channels are group conversations. The sidebar separates them by type:
- System — read-only channels (such as announcements) marked with a megaphone icon. You can't post in these.
- Public channels — open channels anyone in your workspace can join, shown with a
#icon. - Private channels — invite-only channels shown with a lock icon.
To find or start a channel:
- Open Messages from the sidebar.
- In the Channels section header, use Browse channels (compass icon) to join an existing public channel, or Create channel (plus icon) to start a new one.
Direct messages
Direct messages (DMs) are private one-on-one or small-group conversations, listed under Direct messages with an @ icon.
- In the Direct messages section header, click the plus icon to start a DM.
- Pick one or more workspace members.
- Type your message in the composer at the bottom and send.
A presence dot next to a person's name shows whether they're currently online.
What you can do in a conversation
- Reply in threads — open a message's thread to keep a focused side-conversation.
- React — add emoji reactions to any message.
- Mention people — type
@to mention a workspace member and notify them. - Attach files — upload an attachment alongside your message.
- Search — use the search box at the top of the sidebar to find past messages and jump to them.
Notifications in chat
Open the settings (cog) icon at the top of the Messages sidebar to set your notification preferences — control how you're notified about new messages and mentions, and adjust per-channel notification settings from the channel header.
Inbox (legacy)
When chat is not enabled, the Inbox is your message center. It shows three kinds of items in one unified list:
- Coaching feedback — AI coaching summaries tied to your analyzed calls. See Coaching Feedback.
- Direct messages — messages from your admin or manager. You can reply directly in the thread.
- Notifications — achievements, reminders, compliance alerts, and announcements. See System Notifications.
Reading and managing items
- Open Inbox from the sidebar.
- Use the left rail to switch between All, Unread, and Archive, or filter by sender or type.
- Click any item to read it. Opening an unread item marks it as read.
- Use the actions on an open item to Mark read, Snooze, or Archive it.
- Use Mark all as read at the top right to clear your unread count.
The unread count on the sidebar item reflects unread Inbox items. Reading, archiving, or marking items as read updates it.
Tips
- Check Messages or your Inbox regularly so you don't miss feedback from your coach (or your org's term).
- In the Inbox, snoozing an item temporarily hides it and brings it back later — useful for things you can't act on right now.
- Manager and coach communication complements the AI coaching — together they give you a complete picture of your development priorities.
